Resident Evil get Xbox Series & PlayStation 5 upgrades

Capcom has announced that three recent Resident Evil titles will be getting new-gen upgrades later this year. Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil 7 will get Xbox Series X|S & PlayStation 5 upgrades later this year.

The studio made the surprise reveal via the series’ official Twitter account. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and both remakes of Resident Evil 2 & Resident Evil 3 will all get the touch-up treatment. It basically seems that every game using Capcom’s RE Engine will benefit from the makeover, with ray tracing, high frame rates and 3D audio promised. PlayStation owners can also look forward to full DualSense support too, including the use of haptic feedback and adaptive triggers.

Additionally, anyone who owns any of the three games on Xbox One or PlayStation 4 will get a free upgrade. This’ll be delivered via an online update on your console of choice. There’ll even be a free upgrade patch for the PC versions of all three games, allowing them the benefits of the improvements too.

The announcement doesn’t give a specific release date outside of “later this year” for the Resident Evil upgrades just yet. Hopefully, we’ll get more info soon. Resident Evil 2‘s remake was probably our favourite of the three, but you can check out our reviews for Resident Evil 7: Biohazard here and Resident Evil 3 here.
